Dr. Meng Zhao is a professor in the Centre of of Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering, and Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University. Dr. Zhao Received his postdoctoral training in Stowers Institute for Medical Research, USA and established his lab in Sun Yat-sen University in 2016.

The Zhao lab emphasizes using multidisciplinary approaches to understand the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and their bone marrow microenvironment. In recent years, the lab has uncovered multiple mechanisms of metabolism and niche regulation of HSCs, including the sphingosine kinase pathway (Blood 2022a), amino acid catabolism (Cell Stem Cell 2022) and the mesenchymal stem cell niche (Blood 2022b).
